Junk Removal in Marietta, GA
Marietta is one of the few places around here where the city will actually come and take a large item away. It is worth knowing what that covers before you pay anyone — because the list of what it does not cover is long, and it is most of what people call us about.
Garage and estate cleanouts, furniture, appliances, demolition debris, sheds, decks and storm damage — loaded, hauled off and disposed of, with the price agreed before anything goes on the trailer.
What the city will and will not take
City of Marietta Sanitation does collect large trash items that will not fit in your cart. You call the Sanitation Division at 770-794-5595 and arrange it, and the charge varies by weight and volume, which means you find out the cost after they have assessed it rather than before.
What the city explicitly does not collect:
• Construction and demolition debris, and building materials
• Logs, stumps, and limbs taken down by a tree surgeon
• Tires, motor oil, batteries and hazardous waste
That list is the reason most Marietta calls come to us. A deck tear-off, a shed demolition, a bathroom gut, a storm-felled tree already on the ground — all of it is outside city collection, and all of it is ordinary work for us.
Yard debris rules, since they trip people up
Marietta collects yard debris on Wednesdays, with real limits:
• Branches and limbs must be six feet or shorter, no piece over four inches in diameter or 100 pounds.
• Grass and leaves must be bagged, in bags no larger than 32 gallons. Use biodegradable paper bags — Georgia law keeps plastic out of compost facilities, so plastic bags get left at the curb.
• Past roughly 200 cubic feet, or 48 bags, it becomes an excessive load and the city charges $100 per load.
So a single overgrown-lot clearing, or one big storm limb, blows through the limits immediately. If you are looking at more than about four dozen bags, hauling it off in one trip usually costs less than the excess fee plus the weekends spent bagging.
One useful detail: dried paint does go out on a regular garbage day with the lids off. Wet paint does not, and neither do we take it — we will tell you where it goes.
How we price it
By volume — how much of the trailer you fill — not by the hour. Hourly pricing charges you for a crew having a slow day. Volume pricing means you know the number before we start.
A full load of our 5×8 trailer with walls, about 6 cubic yards, runs around $500. Smaller loads cost less and are priced against that.
Included: the labor to get it out of wherever it sits, the load, the haul, and the disposal fee at the transfer station. Dump fees are inside the quoted number, not added afterward.
Surcharged at cost: mattresses, tires, paint, and appliances containing refrigerant — the landfill charges extra for these and we pass that through. We name them when we quote, not on the invoice.
Not taken: hazardous waste, chemicals, solvents, asbestos and medical waste. If any of that is mixed into the pile we separate it out and tell you who does handle it.
The Marietta jobs we get called for most
Estate and downsizing cleanouts in the older neighborhoods. Marietta has a lot of houses that have been in one family for decades, and those cleanouts are rarely one trip. We sort as we load so anything worth donating is separated rather than landfilled, and we work at whatever pace the family needs.
Rental turnovers. Marietta has a dense rental market and turnovers are time-sensitive — every day a unit sits full is a day it earns nothing. We also handle the interior repairs and repaint, so the cleanout and the make-ready run on one schedule instead of two contractors blaming each other.
Demolition and tear-offs. Sheds, decks, fencing, playsets, interior demo. This is exactly what city collection excludes. Because we haul our own debris, you are not paying two mobilizations — one to knock it down and another to come get it.
Storm cleanup. After a storm the city’s four-inch and 100-pound limits mean a real limb has to be cut down to nothing before they will take it. We cut it up and take it away in one visit.
Questions we get asked
Should I just use the city instead?
For one or two ordinary household items, often yes — call 770-794-5595 and ask. We will tell you that on the phone. It stops being the better option once the item is on the excluded list, once there is a pile rather than an item, or once you need it gone on a date.
Do I need to move it to the curb?
No. We take it from wherever it is — back of the garage, basement, far corner of the yard. If you have already stacked it at the curb, say so, because that is a smaller job and should cost you less.
Can you price it over the phone?
A range, yes. A firm number needs eyes on the pile, and a texted photo is usually enough. Anyone giving you a firm price sight-unseen is padding it or planning to revise it.
How fast can you come?
Usually within a few days, often sooner. If a tenant is moving in on a date, tell us and we work to it.
Where does it actually go?
Cobb County’s transfer station takes most of it and we pay by the ton like everyone else. What is worth donating goes to a donation center. We will not claim a recycling percentage we cannot prove, but we will tell you honestly what happened to your load.
