To be straight about it: we are not a weekly mowing service. If you need someone cutting grass every week, we are not the right call and we will tell you that on the phone rather than waste your time.

What we actually do

Bed renovation and planting. Beds stripped back to soil, edged properly, replanted and mulched. Most tired front yards need this more than they need anything expensive.

Sod and lawn replacement. Laid on prepared ground rather than dropped on whatever was there. Details and pricing below.

Natural bed edging. Cut by hand, priced per linear foot. A sharp edge is most of what makes a yard look maintained.

Tree and shrub trimming. Shrubs cut back off windows, walkways and siding. Late winter is the right window for heavy cutting back.

What sod costs in metro Atlanta

2026 market rates, so you can judge any quote you get:

• $1 to $3 per square foot installed on a straightforward job

• $4 to $6 per square foot when the old lawn has to come out, or the ground needs grading or drainage work first

Typical installed totals: 1,000 sq ft runs $1,300 to $2,500. 2,000 sq ft runs $2,600 to $5,000. 5,000 sq ft runs $6,500 to $12,500.

Material alone, before labor: bermuda $0.65 to $0.85 a square foot, tall fescue $0.80 to $1.20, zoysia $1.10 to $1.60.

That spread between $1 and $6 is almost entirely prep. Sod is easy; the ground under it is the job. Anyone quoting you the low end without having looked at your grade and your drainage is quoting a different job from the one you need.

What grass actually works in Cobb County

North Georgia sits in the transition zone, which is the awkward strip where neither warm-season nor cool-season grass is completely at home. That is why lawns here look inconsistent street to street.

Tall fescue is the common choice on shaded and partly shaded lots, and it is the one that stays green through winter. It struggles in full Georgia sun in August and usually needs overseeding each fall to stay thick.

Bermuda loves the heat and full sun, spreads aggressively enough to repair itself, and goes fully brown and dormant from roughly November to April. If a brown winter lawn bothers you, do not put in bermuda.

Zoysia is the compromise — denser than bermuda, takes more shade, feels better underfoot, costs more and is slower to establish and repair.

The honest test is how much direct sun the area gets. Under mature pines and oaks, no grass is going to thrive, and the better answer is usually to stop fighting it and put the shaded areas into beds and pine straw.

Timing, because it decides whether it takes

Fescue goes in during fall. Roughly mid-September through October in this area — the soil is still warm enough to germinate and the punishing heat is done, so roots get established before summer tests them. Fescue laid or seeded in spring has about ten weeks before its first Georgia August, and it usually does not survive that.

Bermuda and zoysia go in during late spring and summer, when they are actively growing. Warm-season sod laid in the fall is going dormant almost immediately and just sits there through winter.

Beds, mulch, edging and planting are best in late winter and early spring, before the weeds get their light.

Heavy trimming and cutting back belongs in late winter, when the ground is workable and nothing is in leaf.

Georgia clay is the reason most of this fails

The red clay here does not drain, and almost every landscaping problem in Cobb County traces back to that one fact.

Water sits rather than soaking away, so it finds the lowest path across the yard and cuts a channel there. It sits behind retaining walls and pushes them apart from the middle out. It drowns plants that would be fine anywhere else. And it turns a mowing strip into a bog for three days after every real rain.

Which means grading and drainage are not an upsell we tack on. On a sloped or low-lying lot they are the first thing to solve, because everything laid on top of an unsolved drainage problem is money spent twice.

If your yard has a bare channel where water runs, a corner that stays wet, or a wall that has started to lean, say so when you call. That changes what the job actually is.

Questions we get asked

Do you do weekly lawn maintenance?

No. We do project work and seasonal work — cleanups, beds, mulch, sod, walls, drainage. We are happy to say who else to call.

Can you just quote from photos?

For small, contained jobs often yes, and it saves everyone a visit. For anything involving grade, drainage or a slope, no — and be careful with anyone who will.

Sod or seed?

Seed is far cheaper and takes a season to look like anything, and it needs consistent water to get there. Sod costs more and looks finished the day it goes down. On a bare front yard people are about to sell, sod. On a big back area with time to spare, seed.

Do you replace the irrigation?

We do not install irrigation systems. We work around existing heads and lines, and if we find one we tell you.

How long does a bed renovation take?

Most front-yard bed jobs are one day. Anything involving grading, wall work or a full lawn replacement runs longer and we will give you the number of days in the quote rather than leaving it open.
